The Euskotren Basque Railway Museum to run six steam trains next weekend

• The Museum will celebrate it is XXXII Anniversary on Saturday 10 October. 

The Basque Railway Museum operated by Euskotren, a publicly-owned company of the Basque Government, will run six steam trains next weekend. There will be five extra journeys on top of the regular Sunday service (12.00 noon), as the XXXII Anniversary of the creation of the Basque Railway Museum will be marked on Saturday 10 October. 

During the day’s celebrations on Saturday the 10th, there will be five departures of trains pulled by the classic steam locomotives Espinal (1887), Zugastieta (1888), Aurrera (1898) and Euzkadi (1920). Visitors will also be able to see the Grafton steam crane (1920), the Alsthom 1004 diesel locomotives (1965) and the classic U-52 electric trams of Bilbao (1932) and the 218 of Zaragoza (1952) operating.

The steam trains will depart from the Museum (Azpeitia-Gipuzkoa) at the following times:

• Saturday 10 October: 11.00 a.m., 12.00 noon, 1.00 p.m., 5.00 p.m. and 6.00 p.m.

• Sunday 11 October: 12.00 noon.

The opening hours of the museum facilities are as follows:      

Tuesday to Friday (not bank holidays):
Mornings: from 10.00 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.
Afternoons: from 3.00 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.

Saturdays:
Mornings: from 10.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.
Afternoons: 4.00 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.

Sundays and bank holidays (except Mondays):
Mornings: from 10.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.

The Basque Railway Museum boasts one of the best railway collections in Europe featuring a whole range of vehicles: electric, diesel and steam locomotives, railcars and different types of carriages. 

It also has one of the Basque Country’s most comprehensive sets of machine tools from the former Urola railway repair shop. There is likewise a display of railway uniforms from the end of the 19th century and one of the best railway clock collections in the world.
