Euskal Trenbide Sarea to shore up the Zudugarai tunnel in Aia

Body

• A rail replacement bus service will be run between Aia-Orio and Zarautz during the works from 15 September to 4 October

The shoring-up works that Euskal Trenbide Sarea (ETS) has to carry out to the Zudugarai tunnel, in Aia municipal district, will disrupt the rail service between the Aia-Orio and San Pelaio (Zarautz) stations from 15 September to 4 October, both inclusive. The public entity under the Basque Government’s Ministry of Sustainable Mobility will run a shuttle bus between both stations throughout that period.

The Zudugarai tunnel on the Bilbao-San Sebastián line is 740 metres long and is single tracked. The work will basically consist of using sprayed concrete and bolts to strengthen a section. The total budget, including the shuttle bus service, is estimated to be around a million euros. ETS has brought forward the initially scheduled end of the work by one day, so Euskotren can run special services for the Kilometroak walkathon in Elgoibar on 5 October.
