The new stops on the Vitoria-Gasteiz tramway account for 9.82% of the tickets validated on 12 April

The new stops on the Euskotren Vitoria-Gasteiz tramway along the Santa Luzia – Salburua section accounted for 9.82% (2,453 validations) of the tickets validated on the whole network on Wednesday 12 April. The new section to Salburua came into service on Tuesday 11 April, but was free on that day so that citizens could discover the features of the tramway network overall.

The validations at the stops of the new section yesterday were as follows:

• Salburua: 774.

• La Unión: 390.

• Nikosia: 597.

• Iliada: 409.

• Santa Luzia: 283.

Up to the time of writing, and as can be seen from the figures from March 2023 (726,646 ticket validations), the distribution by sections on the Vitoria-Gasteiz tramway system was as follows:

• Honduras - Florida section (7 stops): 55.5% of the validations.

• Ibaiondo - Euskal Herria section (6 stops): 21.3%.

• Abetxuko – Intermodal section (8 stops): 17.1%.

• Hegoalde – Unibertsitatea section (2 stops): 5.9%.

The opening of the branch line to Salburua has provided the tramway of the capital of Álava with five new stops - Santa Luzia, Iliada, Nikosia, La Unión and Salburua -. It serves a young neighbourhood, whose population currently stands at around 20,000 people, but which is growing. The 2.5-km extension will improve transport links between Salburua, Judimendi and Santa Lucía and the centre and northern area of the city, and it will make it easier to get to the new bus station and the university area. The branch line to Salburua means that 3,700 residents have a tramway stop in under five minutes from their home and 18,300 at under ten minutes.

Furthermore, the line to Salburua coming into service has involved reorganising the terminuses and destinations, meaning that the tramways run from Abetxuko to Unibertsitatea, and from Ibaiondo to Salburua, every 15 minutes.
